Homeward Bound is an initiative with Antarctica as a setting. It aims to boost the influence of women with scientific background in order to have a bearing on policy and decision making and lay the foundation for a model of leadership (collaborative, inclusive, legacy-minded, trustworthy with assets – people and money) opening path towards a healthier planet.

In 2016, Homeward Bound gathered women from around the world, all with critical science backgrounds, to undertake a year-long program to develop their strategic capabilities.
The inaugural program culminated in the largest-ever female expedition to Antarctica, in December 2016, with a focus on the leadership of women and the state of the world.

A second cohort of 78 women have recently completed their 12-month leadership program and Antarctic expedition in March 2018, and the third cohort of women in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) due to depart for Antarctica on 22 November 2019.

One of the main reasons to launch this program was that Antarctica offers an opportunity to observe first hand the influence of human activities on the environment and provide critical insights into the global-scale change required.

We invite you to visit the official website https://homewardboundprojects.com.au/ to fin out more and join their mailing list to be the first to know about future Homeward Bound news.

In Antarctica Travels we support these actions and understand the importance of socializing them to build awareness on how significant it is to preserve, respect and summon volunteers, scientists, students and the community in general on the responsibility we have with the Seventh Continent.
